Maarten grew up in Timaru, attending Marchwiel School and Timaru Boys’ High School. After graduating from Canterbury University with a First Class honours degree in law in 2000, Maarten spent time living and working in Europe before he returned to Timaru in 2004 and joined Timpany Walton as a solicitor. He became a Partner in 2010.
Maarten works for both private and commercial clients, advising on farm and business sales and purchases, subdivisions, commercial and farm leases, company constitutions and shareholder agreements and employment agreements and processes. Maarten has had involvement in a number of Community organisations and sports clubs, including serving as a Trustee of the Community Trust of Mid and South Canterbury, the Timaru Mental Health Support Trust and he is currently on the Timaru Area Committee for St John.
Outside of work Maarten enjoys spending time with his wife Fiona and young children, playing football, spending time in the outdoors, watching sport on TV and exercising his dog.
